Air Canada has proudly announced its achievement of the Gold Level Certification from Excellence Canada, a nonprofit organization based in Toronto. This prestigious award recognizes the airline’s substantial investments in mental health and wellbeing strategies, including its Unlock the Best in You (UBY) program and the Mental First Aid initiative.
Launched in 2022, the Mental First Aid program has trained and certified 900 employees in essential skills to support their colleagues during challenging times. Dr. Jim Chung, Chief Medical Officer at Air Canada, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, stating, “I am incredibly proud of Air Canada for achieving the Excellence Canada – Gold Level Certification. This recognition highlights our deep commitment to fostering a mentally healthy workplace culture where wellness is not just a program but an integral part of who we are and part of our daily lives. Through engagement and innovation, we are able to ensure that the mental and physical well-being of our employees and their families remain at the forefront of everything we do.”
Air Canada continues to prioritize the mental health of its employees and their families by providing unlimited access to confidential mental health support and resources. The airline also conducts Mental Health 360 workshops and encourages employees to become ‘Mental Health Champions.’
The Unlock the Best in You program has established offices in Montreal and Toronto, offering guidance on mental health resources and advice on additional initiatives that may benefit staff. Additionally, employees in Montreal, Toronto, and Winnipeg can access a physical wellness center for support in maintaining their physical health.
The Canada Awards for Excellence, established in 1984, recognize outstanding achievements across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. This award adds to Air Canada’s accolades this year, which also includes recognition at the InsideOut awards.
