Galen Mental Health, based in Alachua, Florida, has announced Kristen Scheel as its new CEO. Founded by Dr. Wendy Oliver-Pyatt and Dan Davidson, Galen Mental Health specializes in outpatient mental health care, treating conditions such as eating disorders and dual diagnoses through a network of treatment centers. They also offer intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) and partial hospitalization programs (PHPs).
Kristen Scheel brings extensive experience in the behavioral health sector, having previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Refresh Mental Health, a major outpatient mental health provider in the U.S. Refresh Mental Health was acquired by Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, in a significant acquisition deal in 2022.
Under private equity ownership by Lindsay Goldberg since 2021, Galen Mental Health has expanded significantly, growing from operating five entities in 2022 to now managing 12 specialized entities.
Scheel’s appointment underscores her role in overseeing operational growth and expansion strategies in the behavioral health sector, particularly through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and navigating transitions under private equity ownership.
The move highlights Galen Mental Health’s commitment to enhancing mental health care access and services across its expanding network of facilities.
