Goldie Hawn, the 77-year-old actress, took to Instagram on World Mental Health Day to share her insights on mental health and the importance of self-care. In her video message, she emphasized the challenges many people face regarding their mental health, particularly during these difficult times.
Hawn encouraged viewers to recognize when they feel anxious or when life appears challenging. She advised taking a “time out” for activities that bring joy and a moment for prayer. When she herself feels overwhelmed, she practices deep breathing and reflects on the things she’s grateful for, finding that there are many.
She highlighted that self-care is not only deserved but essential, regardless of the world one lives in. Hawn emphasized that it’s about how individuals feel about themselves and the reciprocal support they give and receive from others.
Hawn has been a longstanding advocate for mental health. In 2003, she founded The Goldie Hawn Foundation and MindUp, a nonprofit organization focused on children’s mental health. The foundation equips children with emotional management tools, enhances their resilience, and fosters an understanding of their brain’s functioning to help them navigate from despair to a more optimistic mindset.
She also explored the topic of mental health in her 2011 book, “10 Mindful Minutes,” underlining the significance of social and emotional skills in leading a happier, healthier life.
Hawn’s advocacy for mental health is a reflection of her commitment to promoting well-being and emotional resilience, particularly among young people, to help them lead more fulfilled lives.
